Welcome to the Willowmere Farm website. Established in 2002, by myself William Monohon, Willowmere Farm is a newcomer to the alpaca world yet not new to the alpaca industry and animal husbandry. First introduced to these magnificent animals in 1984 by Ted and Elaine Chepolis of Pine Lake Alpacas, it has been a learning experience ever since. The joy of having these wonderful animals in your pasture can not be described until you actually experience it for yourself. Having raised dairy and beef cattle in the past it is an extreme change and yet similar experience too. We pull from those experiences and transferred the knowledge and skills to the alpaca industry which is still developing and expanding annually here in North America.
We are located on a six acre rental property approximately 25 miles southeast of Portland, Oregon off of Hwy 224 near the little town of Barton. Here we enjoy the country setting with our small herd of alpacas, a few wandering chickens and guinea hens and vegetable and flower gardens which are our passion. Well my passion anyway. Jeff’s passion is to cook. He, Jeff Williams, is a chef instructor at the Western Culinary Institute, Lé Cordon Bleu in Portland, so we never lack for great snacks if you drop in! Jeff adores the alpacas as well and still tries to get them to "sit" and "stay" thinking they are as easy to train as our dogs. We look forward to sharing our excitement of these wonderful animals with others and enjoy talking ‘alpacas’ to everyone, given the opportunity.
Our goal is to maintain a small breeding herd of ten to twelve huacaya hembras so we can maintain the hands on approach ourselves and provide the customer support necessary for clients now and into the future. You will find us in the local northwest alpaca shows and events during the year. The thrill of winning ribbons and color championships is part of our breeding goals. And I just can’t seem to escape the competitions after spending over 25 plus years in the ‘dog show’ world. The alpaca shows also help confirm our breeding decisions and the quality of the animals we are producing. We value the opinions of the various judges in the industry who critique our animals and feel fortunate when we are awarded ribbons for our efforts.
Please take time to wander our website and thank you for stopping by!
